French Army 1892/14 Leather Suspenders BRA01

These braces/suspenders or Y-straps, are a classic example of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. The original design dates from, yes 1892! after which they were “updated” (leather left untanned brown) in 1914 and they saw use up to the 1960’s. They are a simple “Y” shaped design, slightly flared at the shoulders. Height adjustment is made by positioning the metal hooks in the series of holes in each strap end. The front hooks would usually attach to pouches (see our POU17) and the rear hook would attach to a brace attachment (see our MSC47). They date from the 1950’s so some TLC with leather dressing would be in order but the leather is still good and they are still perfectly functional and could be an interesting addition to your wardrobe. Also apparently these could be repurposed as a shoulder strap for a LOTR style Bow Quiver!
