Soviet Russian GP-5 Gas Mask MSC25
The GP-5 Gas Mask kit consisted of the ShM-62 face mask and GP-5 Filter and were for civilian Civil Defence against Nuclear attack. They were produced between 1962 and 1990 where the number of masks made was three times the population of the Soviet Union. The rubber face mask was designed to fit tightly over the head and face providing an effective seal and were supplied in 5 different sizes. The filter simply screwed on the the front of the mask. In 1972 companies were ordered to change the content of the filter from asbestos to activated charcoal but many did not bother to comply. For this reason while the filter is safe for display purposes we strongly advise not to breath through it. The mask was sized by measuring around the chin and top of the head as shown in the photograph.
