The EPS or Emergency Precautions Scheme was set up by the NZ Government in 1935 and was a forerunner of the Civil Defence.During WW2 most civilian people were involved in the EPS in one form or another and their duties included such things as digging trenches,watching for fires,building shelters and preparing for possible air raids,poison gas attacks and Earthquakes.This armband, measuring 73mm high and 180mm wide is made from cotton calico cloth and is screen printed in red ink and appears to be brand new and unused.
